During the 2019/2020 DI season we found ourselves quickly jumping from a traditional In-Person Challenge Season to taking on a whole new challenge in the Virtual World! What a ride it has been! With extracurricular activities being cancelled limited at schools around the world and our ever changing daily lives, Destination Imagination has done what we ask kids to do in the program, they have risen to the real world “instant challenge”. DI has created a platform for an online experience that continues with the focus on Creativity and Collaboration that will have your teams creating their challenge solutions in a new and exciting way. These challenges can be done remotely or in person allowing your teams to create a customized experience that is fitting of their learning environment. We could not be more excited to see what solutions our NCDI teams come up with this year in this whole new virtual world!

Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization. Our purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, we offer seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.

Karyna

I was fortunate to be in Destination Imagination for my sophomore and junior years. I wanted to do it my senior year, but I didn’t have the time since I was going to graduate with an Associate in Art degree along with my high school diploma. At first, all DI meant to me was being in an extracurricular activity; however, as time went by, it meant way more than that. It meant a place where you could express your ideas and creativity. A place where you got closer to your teammates and really became close friends with them. A place where you created memories of laughter, and eating pizza a lot. However, my favorite memory of DI was going to Global Finals in Tennessee. Participating in Globals was really exciting, fun, and challenging. I thought that we were going to win, but in reality, we went to learn and to be better the next year. It was a lot of time and work, but I do not regret any of it. DI has affected me by allowing me to be more open and more confident in the ideas that I come up with and not to be afraid of making mistakes. This is how creativity forms.
